A landmark collaboration is on the horizon as Chittagong University of Engineering & Technology (CUET), Yamaguchi University of Japan, and New Space Intelligence Inc. (NSI) prepare to sign a comprehensive three-party Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This strategic partnership aims to foster significant advancements in satellite technology through joint research, academic exchange, and knowledge sharing.
The initiative was discussed during a high-level “Research Scope Exploration Meet,” where leaders from the institutions gathered to formalise the collaborative framework. The forthcoming MoU will focus on several key areas of cooperation, including:
- Student Exchange Programs: Creating opportunities for students from both CUET and Yamaguchi University to engage in cross-cultural academic experiences and collaborative research projects.
- “Train the Teachers” Initiatives: Developing programs to enhance the pedagogical and technical skills of faculty members, ensuring they are equipped with the latest knowledge in satellite technology and remote sensing.
- Knowledge Sharing from NSI: Leveraging the industry expertise of New Space Intelligence Inc. to provide practical insights, real-world case studies, and cutting-edge technological knowledge to both academic institutions.
The presence of key academic and industry leaders distinguished the meeting. Professor Dr Mahmud Abdul Matin Bhuiyan, the Vice-Chancellor of CUET, chaired the session and emphasised the bright and promising future of satellite technology.
Other esteemed attendees included Professor Dr Md. Jahangir Alam, a former Vice Chancellor of CUET, RUET, and USTC, whose experience provided a valuable perspective on inter-university collaborations. Representing the industry partner, Dr Nick Barua, Director of Marketing and Business Strategy at NSI, outlined the strategic importance of bridging academia and industry to drive innovation. Professor Dr Masahiko Nagai, the Founder/Chairman of NSI and professor at Yamaguchi University, joined the meeting online.
The proceedings were expertly moderated by Professor Dr Sajal Chandra Banik, Director of the Research and Extension at CUET, who will play a pivotal role in implementing the collaborative activities outlined in the MoU.

In his remarks, Professor Dr Mahmud Abdul Matin Bhuiyan stated, “This partnership represents a significant step forward in our mission to become a centre of excellence in engineering and technology. By collaborating with esteemed partners like Yamaguchi University and NSI, we are not only enhancing our research capabilities but also providing our students and faculty with unparalleled global opportunities.”
The tripartite agreement is expected to be formally signed in the coming months, marking the beginning of a robust partnership that promises to accelerate research and development in satellite applications and nurture the next generation of engineers and scientists in Bangladesh and Japan.
Note: This event has been featured in around 10 local and national newspapers in Bangladesh.
